Winter Lawn Care Tips

Here are a few useful tips to help you maintain your lawn during the cold season here in the south.

  • Lower the height of your mower about a half to one inch. This will help keep the grass from getting too long and smothering itself which can cause disease and also lowers the risk of damage from the freezing and thawing.

  • Take not of your lawn traffic. Under ice and snow, areas of your lawn that don’t receive traffic can survive better than areas that receive more traffic. If possible, mix up your route or avoid walking on your lawn during snow and icy conditions.

  • Take note of your weather conditions. While grass can survive some extreme weather conditions like short-term freezing… long term freezing can really do damage. If you need to, try to break up some grass that is frozen by talking through it with some boots.
